Grammy award winner, Laura Story, has just released her newest CD, Open Hands. I first fell in love with her music when I heard her song, Blessings. That song really spoke to me and ever since, I’ve been paying attention to her music. I think she really just gets the relationship aspect of being a Christian. It’s more than just a mere belief and that is evident through her music.
Laura Story released her first debut in 2008 and since then has won many awards. She has also written songs for other artists and has been the worship leader at her church in Atlanta for the past twelve years. Aside from working in music, Story has written two books. Since her last album, she has also given birth to twins and is now busy as a mom of three.
As she began writing the songs for Open Hands, a theme of surrender emerged. Laura states, “We have this picture all the way through the Scriptures of all these great leaders in this process of surrendering everything. What the Lord is asking them is not, ‘You need to hold on tighter. You need to manage this better.’ What the Lord asks us is to surrender,” she offers, “It’s about learning to live with open hands, learning to live life in this constant state of saying, ‘Lord, my life is Yours. My time is Yours. My resources are Yours. All of this is Yours. Do what You will.’”
The song list includes:
- Death Was Arrested
- Open Hands
- You Came Running
- Give You Faith
- For the Love of My King
- Awake My Soul (A 1000 Tongues)
- Every Word You Breathe
- Grace Abounds
Whenever I review a music CD, I always try to share my favorite. This was very difficult but I found myself singing Grace Abounds. With all of the turmoil and protests our country has gone through the past several months, this song offers the only hope we have — grace.
“When life has left me disillusioned
When hostility and hatred seem to win
Each headline that I read
Brings me to my knees again
When it feels like hope cannot be found
