I am slooowwly getting completely onboard with Trim Healthy Mama. Even though I’m not 100% yet, I can tell an amazing difference in the way I am feeling and I am still losing weight. I have especially been enjoying the smoothie recipes!!
I actually designed this one myself after one I used to make. I have adapted it to be THM-friendly. My teenage son even approved it so I hope you can enjoy it too.
This recipe includes some optional ingredients that will help your smoothie.
MCT oil is basically coconut oil on steriods. But much healthier than either! I purchased mine through Amazon and got an amazing deal. It does not have a strong coconut taste and mine has stayed in liquid form which really helps in smoothies if you have texture issues.
Gelatin has great health benefits including being great for your hair and nails. Be sure to use the “green label” so that you get the health benefits without the “gelling”. Of course, if you are making something other than a smoothie, you might want that (then you need the “red label”.) I also purchased mine through Amazon and have never been able to find it locally.
Glucomannon will help thicken your smoothie. Add it last.
Also, I use Barnie’s White Christmas coffee. It’s the only kind I buy so I’m not sure if just plain coffee would make much difference; I imagine you might would need to add more flavoring? If you try it, please comment on the amounts that made yours delicious.
- 1 cup coffee
- 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
- 1 t. MCT oil*
- 1 t. gelatin*
- 1/4 c. half and half
- 1 Tbsp. Truvia
- 1 Tbsp. cocoa powder*
- 1/3 c. unsweetened coconut milk
- coconut flavoring
- almond flavoring
- pinch of salt
- handful of ice cubes
- 1 Tbsp. Glucomannan
- Redi-Whip, optional
- Throw all ingredients except ice and "gluccie" in blender. Then add ice. Then add "gluccie". With the flavorings, add a little at a time to adjust for the taste you want. I probably ended up using almost a full teaspoon of each. Add a swirl of Redi-Whip.
- If you are using this as a meal replacement or need more protein, you can use chocolate protein powder instead of the cocoa powder. The MCT oil, gelatin and Glucomannon are optional ingredients but will take your smoothie up a notch.
