Thank you to FlyBy Productions for providing me with the Family Honor Plate. I was not compensated in any other way and was not required to write a positive review.
Family traditions are so important. I think traditions are what keeps families bound together. Even now that I have adult children that have flown the nest, when we get together, there are still things that we always do together. There are songs or sayings that whenever we hear, we immediately are flooded with family memories. For as long as I can remember, the night we set up the Christmas tree, the kids and I always make pallets on the floor and sleep in the living room. I forgot this year. And when I woke up the next morning and went in the living room, there were my boys sound asleep on the living room floor. I felt terrible that I had forgotten (it was an honest mistake because I had been taking some serious migraine medicine for a couple of days) but I was so touched that my teenage son was keeping the tradition alive with his little brother.
The family that crafts together, stays together.
We are a family that loves doing crafts. The boys and I often will sit down together now and just draw at the table. When I opened the Family Honor Plate, we immediately had to decide who was going to do what. We decided on a basic design together and they wanted me to do the main part of it and they added little finishing touches. We like a more simplistic design.
The Family Honor Plate
The idea behind the Family Honor Plate is a way to reward your children for displaying the gifts of the spirit. Whenever you catch a child doing good works, serve their meal on the Family Honor Plate to recognize their behavior. This allows everyone to focus on finding ways to be gentle, patient, faithful and good. And if you children are competitive, this good behavior will catch on and also they will start making sure that you notice when their sibling deserves the honor of the plate.
Preparing the plate.
The Family Honor Plate kit comes with almost everything you need —the plate, paintbrushes, paints, instructions, palette, and even a plate holder. (There’s an extra bonus that I’ll cover in a bit!) There are a few things that you do need:
- cup of water to rinse paintbrushes
- paper towels
- rubbing alcohol
The first thing you need to do is wipe the plate with rubbing alcohol to make sure it is clean and there’s no residue that will cause interference with the paint. Then uncap the paints and get started. I love the paintbrushes that are included with this kit. In fact, I have some very similar that I purchased myself a few months ago when we started painting rocks. They are very good quality.
My OCD did kick in — “Fosters” is slightly off center and I should’ve painted it first but adding it was an afterthought.
Now, all we had to do was bake it for 30 minutes at 350 degrees.
Table Thyme Discussion Cards
As much as I love the plate, these free bonus cards that’s included are my absolute favorite! Family dinner time has almost become extinct. Even in my own family and I hate it. Of course, family time around the dinner table is not productive time unless there are conversations. Sometimes, you need meaningful conversation starters. And that’s where these discussion cards come in to play. There are a lot of cards included on a handy spiral holder but there is a more complete set that you can purchase online and there’s even a coupon included in this kit if you want to order the entire set of Table Thyme cards. Even when we are not at the dinner table, my boys will grab this and sit down and start asking questions.
