I absolutely love Christmas music. I often play it before Thanksgiving, much to the dismay of my family. In fact, if I need a pick-me-up, I’ve been known to even play Christmas music any time of the year (gasp!)
This year, my son went to sing Christmas carols with his cub scouts. While they were practicing, I realized that perhaps my love of all songs of Christmas, might not be the best thing for my family. While I play Christmas music pretty much continuously, my own child did not know the words to the most traditional Christmas songs.
While they sang O Little Town of Bethlehem, here was my own son, looking at a loss for words. Granted, he did know some of them at least. Just pretty much none of the slower ones. But lo and behold, he doesn’t even know all of the words to Twelve Days of Christmas.
Okay, enough about that. There are also other Christmas songs that are simply amazing. And unless you are lucky enough to have some great Christian radio stations to listen to (Air1 is online!!), who don’t even play them as often as they should, you might have never heard of these. And some have been around for quite awhile, and just don’t enough air time. In my (right) opinion of course.
So, in case you haven’t been privileged enough to enjoy these favorites of mine, I would love to share them with you this holiday season.
1) Strange Way to Save the World.
2) Joseph’s Lullaby
3) 2000 Decembers Ago
4) You’re Here
5) Winter Snow Song (I love this!! A fourteen year old girl just sang this at my church recently and nailed it!! Beautiful)
Although I was only going to share five, I am stepping out of what is my usual comfort zone to share another song. This is more Southern Gospel style. I grew up on this kind of music in my house. My dad used to sing. I’ve never heard him sing this particular song but I would really like to, and record it. You just have to tap your feet and sing along.
