I was provided with a copy of “All In” in exchange for my honest review. No other compensation was received and all opinions are my own unbiased opinions.
I have fond memories of piling my kids in the minivan and heading off to local Christian concerts. We’ve gone to everything from local free concerts at the mall, shows at half-time during a baseball game, to waiting for hours outside to get good seats at Winter Jam. I know we’ve seen Matthew West at least three or four times. He’s always been a favorite because lyrics are very important to me and his songs tell wonderful stories. And while I would think that eventually he would plateau, he keeps releasing songs that continue to take me to a higher level. Couple great lyrics with catchy tunes and you have another got-to-have album.
The best thing about Matthew West is his ability to see God in the everyday challenges that ordinary people face. He then takes that hardship and turns it into a beautiful song that encourages other people who feel like they are facing a grave situation all alone and empowers them with faith. While so many people go through life unaffected by the trials of others, Matthew West’s empathy translates into song after song. If you need strength, hope or more faith, you can pick up any of his albums and be blessed.
This album is no different. It challenges us to go all in. When he wrote the songs for this album, Matthew West wanted to challenge us to get away from the sidelines of our faith and jump all in. This might look different for each person but we should all try to live our faith more pronounced, more intentional. West is even doing a six week challenge via his social media outlets starting this week to encourage his fans to go all in in various areas of their lives. Be sure to join him in these efforts:
Whenever I usually do a review of a music video, I always list the songs and maybe mention a little about each one, and name a favorite. While the upbeat tune of Amen had my son running into the room and start dancing, I honestly cannot choose a favorite song on this CD. I will say that I do think this might be my favorite overall CD yet. I cannot listen to this CD without thinking of a few friends that have battled cancer, especially Never Ever Give Up. Just so happens, that song was written for a little girl, Brooke, that Matthew West befriended who went on to be with Jesus this past June.
You can really catch what his heart is all about as he speaks about writing that song.
