I know it might seem a little early for Christmas, but it’s really not to early to plan ahead. It will be here before you know it, just a little more than six weeks away. It might be a little soon to pull out the decorations, but it’s definitely the time to think about holiday traditions. There are many many popular holiday traditions from the Jesse Tree, to Advent calendars and even Elf on the Shelf. I know several families that allow the children to open a new book every night for the week (or any timeframe you decide on) leading up to Christmas Day. I especially like this tradition because I love books AND I love Christmas. If you are looking for a new Christmas book for your children to enjoy this year, you will love Where Jesus Slept.
About the Book
Where Jesus Slept is a beautifully illustrated, repetitive book that children will love. Children love repetition because it allows them to “read” the story along with you way before they can actually read. Repetition increases memory skills. Don’t we all remember the book about the little old lady that swallowed a fly?? No matter how many books you read, or that were read to you as a child, it is very easy to remember the ones that repeated lines.
Norma Lewis tells the story of Jesus’ birth staring in the manger with hay. We meet the cow and the spotlight broadens to include Mary and baby Jesus before reaching the shepherds and wise men. I absolutely adore the illustrations of the animals that Katy Hudson captured with their sweet, adoring eyes. (Yes, I love to look at cow’s faces and their big brown eyes.)
About the Author
Norma Lewis lives in Michigan with her cat, Scalawag — don’t you just love that name? She enjoys spending time with her six grandchildren when she is not writing another book. She has authored ten books.
About the Artist
Katy Hudson was raised on the UK where she grew up drawing on walls. I can relate to her parents! (I finally gave up trying to change my little artist and just started penciling in the date under her wall art.) She has illustrated several books and likes to tap dance.
