Purity is a subject that has been near and dear to my heart for a long time. I cannot stress how important it is to not only remain physically pure but also mentally and emotionally. Although the media does not seem to endorse purity, they also fail to show the flip side of all the promiscuity that they do promote – the guilt, the addictions, the loneliness and so much more. While we are bombarded with messages of casual relationships and “hooking up”, Family Life is promoting a new message. A life-changing message.
Passport2Purity (P2P) has released their third edition. Although this is designed to be a getaway kit, it can easily be adjusted to what works for your family as I will explain. P2P equips parents to talk to their preteen/teen about sexual pressures they will be facing and prepares them now to know how to make good decisions. All of the hard work (“How do a approach the subject?”, “What exactly should we discuss?”, “How much information should I give?”, “How can I make sure they are listening and will take this to heart?”, etc.) has been done for you.
Let’s start off talking about when is included.
The getaway kit includes:
- P2P Weekend Getaway Checklist,
- Tour Guide
- Travel Journal
- Set of 8 CDs
Start off with the Tour Guide. This is for your information. It starts off with “9 Steps for Planning Your Getaway”. Ideally, you would set aside a special weekend with your teen, plan special activities and go through this course together. I think this would be perfect for a thirteenth birthday getaway!!! Although, it’s never too late. The suggested schedule is a two-day getaway. Don’t worry, it’s not just a weekend of studying. There are fun projects to do together, other fun activities to spend time bonding with your son/daughter, even meals are planned. Be sure you refer to the checklist that is provided so you do not forget anything.
The remainder of the Tour Guide is laid out exactly like the Travel Journal. The Travel Journal will be a keepsake for your teen because they will be writing in it (as will you). Follow along in the Tour Guide and it will tell you exactly what to do, when.
The CD’s are designed for your teen to listen to or you can listen to them together. There are plenty of opportunities to pause and discuss what is being said. I will highly suggest that you DO listen to the sixth CD (it says optional) because it covers pornography and subjects that I believe our youth are bombarded with today.
The CD topics are:
- Parent’s Only, Session 1: Beginning the Journey
- Session Two: Running with the Herd
- Session Three: Ready for an Upgrade? (Girls)
- Session Three: Ready for an Upgrade? (Boys)
- Session Four: Destination: Le Pure
- Session Four: Optional (Boys) and Optional (Girls)
- Session Five: Crossing the Date Line
- Scripture Memory Songs, Digital Content: MP3 Files of Sessions
I wish I had run across this years ago. I have two adult children, two teens and an eight year old now. My youngest teen is now sixteen so I used this with him. It’s summer and we couldn’t really do a getaway so we just spread it out over a week. Although some topics might be a little late for him (body changes), since we have a family rule of no dating until eighteen, the rest applied. We had some dinner dates and game nights and some great discussions.
I cannot recommend this enough. There are so many parents that leave so much up to chance, praying and hoping for the best. Prayer is a very big part but having open communication is very important too. I love that this covers that everyone is tempted and being tempted is not wrong, it’s just how we respond (whether we succumb or not) is what matters. Yes, there are topics that might be a little uncomfortable but you can bet that friends and media will be more than happy to cover the subjects so you might as well be able to, and do it from a Biblical perspective.
