There is so much distractions this time of year that it is easy to miss the most important aspect of Christmas. Of course, kids are excited about Santa Claus and presents and seeing family and friends. Adults get excited about most of that too. However, you really do want to make sure you take time to teach your children the real reason we should celebrate Christmas – the birth of our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
There are many ways to do this but I’d like to share some of my favorites:
- Jesse Tree
- Advent Calendar
- Christmas Hymns
- Go to local church’s Christmas plays
- See if there is a walk-thru Bethlehem replica near where you live
- have a Happy Birthday Jesus party
How do you incorporate Jesus in your Christmas celebration? Please share any posts you have on any of the above ideas or any other tradition that you do.
Sometimes it is hard for children to understand. This is how I explained it to my young son. Let’s pretend it is your birthday. You are so excited and we have invited every person you know to celebrate with us. Everyone that you invite wants to know if you will be providing party gift bags for the guests. Then we they come to the party, the quickly eat all of the food, grab their goody bags, play games only with each other and leave you out completely. Sure, maybe a few will both to even say “Happy Birthday” but it is clear that they only came for what they could get. How would you feel? That’s exactly what we do when we focus on everything else during the Christmas season.
This year, remember the reason for the season. Sure, it’s not really the exact date of Jesus’ birth and their are pagan celebrations surrounding but for you and your family, let’s try to keep Christ in Christmas.
Hope you have a very Merry Christmas and be blessed.
