Ever since we moved to Florida nine years ago, I really struggle to get in the Christmas mood. It’s just so hard without the cooler temperatures, the need for bundling up in coats and scarves, and the scent of evergreens. I have learned however, that with a few tweaks, I can get in that holiday mood.
One of the sure-fire ways to get in the good ole Christmas feeling, is to play Christmas music.
Confession: I may or may not play Christmas music regardless of the season if I am in need of a pick-me-up.
It is a tradition to add at least one new Christmas CD to my holiday music collection. I was thrilled this year to be able to review Sentimental Season by Wayne Haun.
About the Artist
Wayne Haun has definitely left his mark in the music world. Here’s just a few of his accomplishments:
- 4-time Grammy nominee
- 22-time GMA/Dove Award winner
- 3-time BMI Music Award winner
Mr. Haun is a sought after producer and writer and has worked with numerous artists. He has the soothing voice as great crooners such as Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra. In fact, his debut album, Old Soul, showcased his talent and rightly claimed the #1 spot on iTunes jazz chart. His voice is classic. Timeless. And absolutely essential for creating a perfect nostalgic Christmas atmosphere.
Want to hear it for yourself? Check out this video and you will understand why I (and so many others) have fallen in love with his music!! (This is not a song from this Sentimental Season CD but you can get a chance to hear his voice!!
About the Music
Haun’s own StowTown Records has released this collection of classic and original tunes just in time for this Christmas season. The contemporary jazz will have you dreaming of tinsel, lights and snow in no time. The song selections are:
- Sentimental Season*
- The Christmas Song
- Earth is a Much Sweeter Planet*
- Tennessee Christmas
- Christmas is Christmas*
- Light a Candle*
- Silent Night
- On a Snow Covered Street*
- What a Wonderful World
- Beautiful Star of Bethlehem
Haun has some borrowed talent that’s featured on the duets. I think the most heartwarming arrangement features his grandmother, mother and sister. On the inside cover (yes, I do like to read all of those thank-you’s and acknowledgements), Haun lists a journal entry. He shares that his grandmother, “mamaw” got all dolled up for her first time in a recording studio, complete with a new outfit and having her hair done. Isn’t that just too precious? Makes me really miss my grandmothers.
The CD is not available until October 14, 2014 but you can pre-order now for only $9.99. I can honestly say, this will be my most played Christmas CD this season. I’ve listened to it to go to sleep by almost every night since I received it.
