Welcome to Day 1 on my newest 5 Day Series. This week I am sharing mnemonics to help you study. If you missed the introduction of this series and want to know what other topics will be covered, check out the introduction to mnemonics.
Today’s subject is Math.
Does my sister cook bananas?
divide, multiply, subtract, compare (remainder with division), bring down
The dividend is on the end of the division problem.
Division rule for fractions:
The number you are dividing by
Turn upside down and multiply.
The numerator is up; the denominator is down.
To find percentages:
When “is” comes first
Take the last into the first;
When “is” is last,
Take the first into the last.
Multiplying two digit numbers:
Just ask MOMA.
multiply, write the “0”, multiply, add
Multiplying Positive and Negative Numbers:
If the signs match, that’s a plus (+).
If the signs clash, that’s a bust (-).
Greater Than and Less Than Symbols
The “alligator’s mouth” ( < or > ) is opened wider to the larger number.
Order of Operations:
parenthesis, exponents, multiplication and division, addition and subtraction

I=1 V=5 X=10 L=50
C=100 D=500 M=1,000
