I used to do weekly wrap-ups. I probably still should because it was a nice way to remember even the little things that happen. When it seemed that each week was just a repeat of the previous week, I stopped doing it. But you know what? Christmas only repeats once a year.
Despite not being in the Christmas spirit until the very last minute, the holiday turned out pretty good. We had a good time just being together and that’s what it should all be about. The three older kids with jobs actually bought presents for everyone else even though this is the first time I never mentioned it. Usually we have the kids draw names. After this many years, they have learned that it is truly better to give than to receive.
I have realized that I might never get pictures of my family again looking normal. Now every time they see me getting ready to take a picture, they all make derpy faces at me. For the sake of blackmail, I am saving those pictures for another time. (bawhahahaha)
My future son-in-law came up too. We even spent Christmas night with several friends and ate so much that I thought I would never go hungry again. Ever. Honestly, I haven’t felt hunger pains since.
Then on Saturday, we took Jeremiah with his cub scouts to visit the helicopter unit of the local sheriff’s department. It turned out to be so much fun and informative. Let me warn you – don’t ever try to run away from a helicopter chasing you. There is no where to hide. We even got to watch a video of a chase. You could see the guy drop something and then climb several fences running through neighborhoods. (Another tip: if you see a helicopter above your home, go inside and lock the door.) Then we saw as the guy who thought he had gotten away, was chased by the K-9 unit that had appeared and released the dog. (Remember my tip? The dog will chase whoever they see. They don’t know who the bad guy is unless there’s a scent. Usually they just know to chase the one running away. Or the only one outside.)
And now that the year is closing down, we have another tradition. Each year our church has a renewal revival. It’s a great way to renew yourself spiritually each year. And we have to decide between two different New Year’s Eve parties. Think we are going to a new one this year.
